Squire’s Cottages

The Squire’s Cottages site includes a two-storey building fronting Olantigh Road and a number of ancillary structures including green houses and sheds/cycle stores. It sits between buildings of varying scales within what was the former WyeCollege complex and faces residential and commercial properties on the eastern side of Olantigh Road.

The building was originally four cottages but has been used in recent years as student accommodation in connection with the College. The building is currently vacant.

The planning application for the Squire’s Cottage site received approval from Ashford Borough Council on 22nd August 2016.

Our Plans

The planning application which has now been approved by the Council sought a change of use from student accommodation to four 2-bed cottages. The site layout is illustrated on the architect’s site plan below and is mostly unchanged from the existing layout.

At the back, outbuildings will be removed to provide more useable rear gardens with pedestrian access from the side path and at the front each cottage will have a small front garden with its own entrance. Eight car parking spaces will be provided on land to the east of the cottages, using an existing access off Olantigh Road. Other than demolition of some later extensions and re-instatement of a front door no external changes are proposed.

Internal Layout

The porposed internal layout, which reflects the historic layout of the cottages is illustrated in the drawing below. Each cottage has the same layout: with new partition walls to create open plan dining/sitting rooms, separate kitchens with access to the rear gardens, ground floor wc and two bedrooms at first floor with a family bathroom. The standard of accommodation meets the Nationally Described Space Standards and will provide an excellent, spacious environment for future residents.

The fourth entrance will replace an existing window on the front and a fourth staircase will be provided.
